Brief Introduction

The pioneering and continuous efforts of Swami Shambavanandaji in eradicating the malice of malaria in this part of Kodagu equipped with a self-composed poem in ‘Kodava thakk’ (the language of Kodagu) explaining about the vector, the anopheles mosquito and how it carries the disease had deep impacts on the suffering villagers around Ponnampet.

This most important medical service of the Ponnampet Ramakrishna Ashrama in the pre-independance of India eventually lead to founding the Charitable Hospital in 1942 under the name of Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama.  The New Independent India and the erstwhile Coorg Government granted Rs. 9,500/-and 15,000/- respectively in 1949.  And thus the dictum of Swami Vivekananda “Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva” was put into ‘seva-service’ for the welfare of all people in South Kodagu without any caste, creed or religion.  

The Sevashrama (Charitable) Hospital has been rendering this ‘Medical-Seva’ uninterruptedly for more than 75 years.  Though the Sevashrama (Charitable) Hospital situated in a typical rural set up, this ‘Medical-Seva’ absorbed all the Current cum New Improvements and grew into a 25 bedded full fledge hospital carving a niche in the area of maternity-services. The hospital has all the basic facilities with diagnostic laboratory with dedicated team of Doctors, House surgeons on deputation from Mysore Medical College, Nursing staff , Paramedical Staff & Volunteers.

The Charitable Hospital is conducting Indoor and Outdoor Free Medical Camps.  Our Outdoor Free Camps, especially at the Government Primary and Higher Primary Schools are benefiting largely the Poor-Student-Community. Those students who need further medical aid are treated freely in  the Sevashrama Hospital. From 2010 onwards, the Sevashrama renders ‘Medical-Seva’ in Naturopathy also. Having ‘Serene - Silent - Spiritual - Ashrama - Ambiance’ and with improvement, this Naturopathy wing now offers Seva for Non-Residential(OPD) and Residential (In-Patent) ‘Health Re-treat’ programmes/packages.

Admission & Discharge

Admission:
OPD - Doctors might advice for admission to a respective ward.
On the advice of the treating doctor, the patient will be admitted to the concerned ward. The ward will be designated by the inquiry staff at the admission desk (Ground Floor) and will be entered in the case sheet. All the patients will be admitted under their unique hospital identification (UHID) so as to maintain the record for future reference.A minimum amount is needed to be deposited at the billing cash counter as advised by the admission desk staff. This deposition amount varies depending upon the area/ward in which the patient is being admitted.

Discharge:
Once the staff gets the intimation from the concerned department, the discharge procedure is initiated. The process takes up approximately 3 hours from the verbal instructions of the discharge to hand over of discharge papers. In the paying cases, the discharge is handed over to the party of the patient in the ward only after all the hospital dues are settled in the billing cash counter. Our nurse will explain all the medications which the patients need to continue after the discharge and about any other follow up instructions.
